Greg Daniels Office Reboot Compared to The Mandalorian

The reboot millions of us have been desperate for could potentially still become a reality! While The Office US ended in 2013, there has been a ton of speculation on whether the popular sitcom is coming back to our screens. With shows such as Will & Grace and Sex and the City making a comeback, Office fans now more than ever are wanting a revival. But how could it be done without upsetting fans expectations?

Over the past several years, we have had high hopes of a reboot. From back when John Krasinski launched his YouTube channel, reminding us of how much we love the cast as a whole, to the announcement of Uncle Stan, we are still waiting on the news of a complete reboot. But The Office creator Greg Daniels have offered an insight into what a possible reboot could entail!

Daniels told Collider:

“I can’t tell whether fans would want more of it. “I can’t tell whether fans would want more of it,” he told Collider. “And when I say more of it, I don’t think it would be the same characters. I think it would just be sort of like an extension of the universe, you know what I mean, like the way (The) Mandalorian is like an extension of Star Wars. But I don’t know if that would be something people would want or not, it’s hard to tell”.

He continued:

“Well, (NBC) certainly would be very excited to do it. Obviously certain parts are just personal. Like, I’ve got all these other projects that I’ve been working on. (The Office) was such a wonderful and rare experience that obviously you don’t want to just go back to it and kind of possibly disappoint people when right now, they couldn’t be happier about it”.

So according to Greg Daniels, The Office may be returning as ‘an extension of the universe’ rather than bringing every character back. But the creator is very wary of disappointing fans, especially with the initial backlash from adapting Ricky Gervais’ British TV show.

Daniels said:

“A lot of people were very down on it because they were like, ‘It’ll never be as good as the English show. And then it took a while, but we sort of turned that boat around”.
